There’s nothing like the first snowfall of the year, right? Our first snow falls in both 2020 and 2021 were both in January. I grew up in Colorado and always loved playing in the snow as a kid. My kids had yet to experience much snow yet as we came from Hawaii before we moved to Virginia. They were very excited for a snow day in Charlottesville! Here’s some photos from both of those days.
Here’s some images I took from a snow day in Charlottesville, Virginia that we had in January 2020 – pre-pandemic times!! This was our one and only snowfall in winter of 2019-2020.
This is one of my all-time favorite images of Stella. I have it framed in our home. It’s so very “her.”
Can you tell my children love the snow? I wasn’t sure they would since they both spent the first part of their life in Hawaii!
Here’s some images from January 2021 snowfall. We have gotten so much more snow this year!
We of course had to make a giant snowman, courtesy my husband. I thought it was cute to put the mask on the but the girls asked to take it off right away. I guess we’re all getting tired of masks around here!
Me and my not-so-baby-babies. Although 2020-2021 has been a rough season with COVID and all, there is no place I’d rather be than right here with them.
If there’s anything to be especially thankful for in these very crazy times, it’s that I’ve been given this extra chunk of time to focus on just them. I may not be doing it perfectly, but I’m showing up every day and trying my best.
Catch up with more of my work on Instagram.

I love the joy you captured here! Between the sledding, snowman-making, and snow angels it looks like a pretty fun snow day!! 🙂
