I love being a Montgomery in-home newborn photographer so I can get all the baby snuggles in! It was a pleasure to do this session for a new family of five.

The most common question I hear new moms (or new again moms!) ask about newborn sessions is usually related to 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥?! 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥?! Somehow newborn sessions got equated with physical items somewhere along the way.⁣

The real answer? It’s two simple things that aren’t “things” at all: 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 with your baby and spouse, just like this! And to 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. Timing a session around when your baby is usually napping or calmest (typically the morning) is really helpful. But that’s it! I show up, provide all the props, and do the work! We timed this session perfectly and baby was happy the whole time!

People also tend to worry about the state of their home right after having a baby, and I definitely understand that. I promise your house does not have to be clean, perfectly picked up or look like a magazine to be used for a photo session. I’m not zooming in on the crumbs on the floor, I promise!

After hanging out inside, we popped outside quickly (as it was still a bit chilly!) to take some outdoor photos. All the props the baby is in (wrap, hat, and bucket) are provided by me. I can easily add in a few more “posed” newborn images to a lifestyle session if you desire.

Newborn photography really is one of my favorites. I love getting to capture a newly expanded family. It’s a tender time, but I appreciate being invited into the home so you don’t ever have to miss these moments when they’re this tiny!
