First of all, huge congratulations on your engagement!!! This is such an exciting time in your relationship. Now it’s time to plan your engagement session! Like many of my couples, you might be wondering what to wear for engagement photos. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!

 

What to Wear for Engagement Photos

As a Montgomery, AL photographer, I love getting to showcase so many beautiful locations in the area. This post shows multiple locations so you can envision what to wear to your engagement photos!

Location Matters!

What you wear will also depend on where your engagement session is taking place. Are we hiking up a mountain? Then maybe heels isn’t the best option! Can you still get dressed up? Sure! Just plan to bring some good shoes or possibly change when we get to the top. Consider the setting of your engagement session location and plan to match your outfits to that.

 

Plan Two Outfits for Variety

I always recommend my couples plan two outfits. This gives your photos so much variety! I usually recommend one more formal outfit or something a bit fancy and one more casual one.

 

Coordinate, Don’t Match

My best tip is to dress like you’re going to the same event/place. I recommend a print for one person and a solid color for another. Two prints usually is a bit distracting. You can’t go wrong both being in solid colors.

Consider the season you’re having your session in and plan off that. If it’s fall, consider darker or muted colors. If it’s spring or summer, consider a bright pop of color if you’ll be at a garden location that’s really green, etc.

 

Wear The Dress!

Engagement photos are a great time to wear the dress. You know the one you’ve always wanted to wear or have been eyeing online? Do it!

Make it Personal

Do you two have a dog that you’d love to bring to your session? Let’s do it! I am all for some fur baby cuddles and including “fur children” in the photos. I just ask that someone else be present to handle the pup so we can get some photos of just the two of you as well.

Some people like to have their engagement session at the place they got engaged, first met or even at their wedding venue. You can make your session as personal as you’d like! I always love personal touches to make it feel like “you.”

 

 

Overall, your engagement session will be so fun! I use this time to get to know my wedding couples, capture that natural connection between the two of you, & give you amazing photos to use to announce your engagement, use for save the dates, & enjoy in your home!
