Best Photo Session Locations in Washington, D.C.
Today, let’s talk the best Northern VA Family photo locations when you have young kids. Choosing the right photo location matters—a lot. You need more than just a pretty view. You want somewhere with easy parking, minimal walking, shade, and maybe even a bathroom nearby. As a mom and photographer, I keep all of that in mind when recommending locations and always want to offer places that are not only beautiful photo backdrops, but make sense to visit with toddlers too!
Best Northern VA Family Photo Locations with Young Kids
Here are my top picks in DC and Northern Virginia that are both beautiful and kid-friendly.
Founders Park – Alexandria, VA
This is one of my favorite versatile spots for families with young kids. There is easy street parking right along the start of the park ot very close by paid lots to park in. The park has plenty of space to run around and is beautiful in both fall and spring. If you opt for a bit of walking, you can walk to the cobblestone alley ways of Old Town and get a lot of variety in one photo session.
Green Spring Gardens – Alexandria, VA
This spot is a dream for families. The gardens are beautiful year-round, and the paths are stroller-friendly. There’s a mix of shaded areas, brick paths, and wide-open spaces for little ones to roam. Plus, bathrooms and parking are close by.
Bon Air Rose Garden – Arlington, VA
Compact but charming, Bon Air has lots of flowers, flat walking paths, and even a small playground. It’s ideal if you want something quick and easy with minimal walking. It can get crowded once the roses are in bloom, so I recommend weekend mornings or weekday evenings to minimize crowds.
Old Town Alexandria – Alexandria, VA
This location offers charming cobblestone streets, colorful rowhouses, and waterfront views—all within walking distance. Early mornings here are perfect. There’s shade, public restrooms, and places to grab a snack if needed. It feels like a little getaway without leaving town.
Jones Point Park – Alexandria, VA
A hidden gem with river views, a lighthouse, and grassy areas kids love. There’s ample shade, easy parking, and it’s right by the water without being crowded. Great for toddlers and babies in strollers.
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens – Vienna, VA
This one does require a small admission fee, but it’s worth it. Paved trails, vibrant gardens, and beautiful bridges make it a standout. It’s stroller-friendly, peaceful, and ideal for slightly older toddlers or babies who don’t mind a bit of walking.
