National Archives Promotion Ceremony | Lt Col Hicks

Recently, I had the honor of capturing a National Archives Promotion Ceremony in Washington, DC. Expectant mother Lt. Col. Hicks celebrated her promotion, surrounded by her family, including her three adorable children. The ceremony became even more meaningful because her brother, also in the Air Force, promoted her.

The National Archives Museum, with its rich history, provided a fitting backdrop for this occasion. The family arrived early, excited to stand before the iconic Rotunda, home to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. This setting perfectly reflected the themes of commitment, sacrifice, and family support.

As her brother led the ceremony, the bond between them was clear. Siblings in the military share a unique connection, and this moment held deep significance for both. Surrounded by the nation’s most treasured documents, the ceremony highlighted the close ties between service and family.

Her three children, dressed in their Sunday best, watched with admiration and joy as their mother received her new rank. This moment served as a reminder of the sacrifices military families make and the strength they possess.

This promotion ceremony was more than a step up in rank. It was a celebration of the journey, the support of loved ones, and the excitement of a new chapter. I felt honored to capture these memories for a family so deeply connected to service and love.

As a military spouse (and Air Force spouse!), it’s such an honor to be there for families in these career milestones. I’m so glad I could document this National Archives Military Promotion Ceremony. I know how meaningful and important these events are for the service member and the families. I’m so thankful I can be part of the military community to document such special moments.
