Best Photo Session Locations in Washington, D.C.
Sunrise family photos at the Lincoln Memorial are one of the most beautiful and meaningful ways to document your time in Washington, D.C. There’s something truly special about this location in the early morning—the soft golden light, the peaceful quiet, and the glow of the monuments all come together for a perfect photo backdrop.
This particular session meant so much. I first met this sweet family during the cherry blossom season when they booked a mini session with me. Their toddler was not having it that morning—which happens more than you’d think! But even with tears and wiggles, we still created some beautiful images.
When they reached out again, they were preparing to move away from the area. They wanted one more photo session to capture their time living in D.C.—and this time, they booked a full session to give their little guy a chance to warm up and so no one had to rush. That extra time made all the difference.
We met just after sunrise and kept things relaxed and playful. We let their little one take the lead, moving at his pace and keeping things fun and low-pressure. That’s the beauty of full sessions—we’re not rushed, and there’s room for real moments to unfold.
By the end, we had a full gallery of joyful, light-filled images that showed exactly who they are as a family in this season of life. These are the kinds of memories worth holding onto—especially during a big life transition like a move.
At the time these were taken, the Lincoln Memorial was still under construction as you might see some of the stairs ramps and things blocked off. Despite the construction, I still think it’s a solid photo session location. Come 2026, the construction and new museum underneath should be completed though.
If you’re thinking about family photos in D.C., I can’t recommend sunrise enough. The lighting is perfect, and the iconic monuments are practically empty. It’s a completely different experience from the usual busy crowds.
And if you want photos that feel relaxed, genuine, and full of heart? A full session gives us the space to make that happen.
Let’s create something beautiful together—right here in the heart of D.C.
