Happy first day of spring! I’m excited to talk about what to wear for spring family pictures today.
What to wear for family pictures is my most asked client concern, right behind “we’re terrible in front of the camera! Can you help us?” to which the answer is: absolutely. But that’s a topic for another day!
I already went over general tips for what to wear in this post, but today I’m talking about spring specifically. Spring is an absolutely beautiful time to get your family photos done. It’s often less busy than fall and is not going to be as hot as summer or as cold as winter/Christmas time. There is really nothing not to like about spring photo sessions, except maybe a higher chance of rain.
Today I’m pulling together three different outfit looks for everyone in the whole family for what to wear for spring family pictures! This post was compiled in March of 2021, so if you find this at a later date some links to the clothing may be unavailable. But hopefully it still gives you a ballpark idea of how to create some great looking outfit combinations!
This look features one floral print for moms, but keeps it pretty neutral in terms of colors. This outfit combination would look great at a very green location so the background is what really pops! This would also work for summer if dad switched to chino shorts instead of pants.
Women’s Dress | Women’s Sandals | Girl’s Dress | Girl’s Shoes
Men’s Shirt | Men’s Pants | Men’s Shoes | Boy’s Shirt | Boy’s Shorts | Boy’s Shoes
Who doesn’t love some pops of springy colors? This outfit is still somewhat neutral though and would look great on the wall of your home with nothing too flashy going on. If you wanted a little more color, add a striped shirt for a boy instead of white. This look would be amazing at the beach or anywhere with flowers!
Men’s Shirt | Men’s Shorts | Boy’s Shirt | Boy’s Shorts
I know not all ladies want to be in a dress. Sometimes it’s hard to find a dress that truly feels flattering. I sometimes find it hard to be photographed in a dress while also chasing my crazy kids around and not flashing everyone so – pants are always an option!
The outfit featured here, I actually own myself, just in the light blue sweatshirt. It’s all comfortable but still classy looking enough for pictures. Win win!
Women’s Pants | Women’s Sweatshirt | Girl’s Dress | Girl’s Sandal
Boy’s Shirt | Boy’s Shorts | Men’s Shirt | Men’s Pants
For most of these looks, I’ve included sizing for kids in sizes 4-16. If you need something for a baby to wear, I always recommend simple rompers like these from Amazon.
Top Left | Top Right | Bottom Left | Bottom Right
For non-walkers, you will likely be holding them yourself so something that stays in place is a better bet than a pants/shirt combo which often shows their tummies. And dresses are sometimes a lot to fuss with and fix for baby girls. If you plan to hold baby most the session, I also recommend skipping shoes. They usually fall off at this age and barefoot baby feet are adorable!
I hope you found these outfits inspiring! I am not a fashion expert by any means, but am trying my best to take the hardest parts of getting your family photographed off your plate! If you are a client of mine, I am always happy to provide styling assistance and love seeing what outfits you have planned!
Ready for spring photos? My spring mini session day has two slots left! If you’d like a full session for your family this spring or summer, reach out to me to get on my calendar! I’d love to capture something beautiful for you!
