A crisp fall morning at the Jefferson Memorial was the perfect backdrop for this promotion ceremony. Most attendees had traveled from afar to celebrate this milestone, so the atmosphere was full of excitement and pride.
It was especially meaningful because the woman being promoted had wanted updated D.C. family photos for years. At last, she was able to combine both — celebrating her achievement and getting those timeless photos she’d always envisioned.

The Jefferson Memorial is iconic, but at 10 a.m. on a Friday, it can be packed. Between school groups and tourists, I knew finding a quiet corner would take some patience. Still, we made it work.
After a bit of exploring, we discovered a tucked-away area that offered a clear view of the monument’s marble columns. It was peaceful, private, and still showcased the beauty of the memorial. Because of that choice, their photos look open and elegant — not crowded or chaotic.

The ceremony itself was simple and full of emotion. Afterward, we took time for family portraits among the columns. During those few moments, I captured both formal smiles and genuine laughter.

Even though the memorial was busy, the family stayed relaxed and joyful. Their fall outfits — warm oranges and browns — looked stunning against the white marble and early autumn leaves. As a result, every photo feels full of warmth and connection.
Military milestones pass quickly, and families often don’t pause to capture them. That’s why sessions like this mean so much. They become lasting reminders of love, hard work, and gratitude.

When you see this gallery, I hope it makes you stop for a second. Feel grateful. Think, “Wow — this could be my family.” Maybe it even inspires you to take the time to document your own moments too.
If you’re planning a promotion, retirement or other military event, I’d love to help you capture it in a meaningful way. Whether it’s a big celebration or something simple, we’ll make it beautiful and effortless. Contact me here.
